Time Magazine interviews Niman Ranch founding hog farmer Paul Willis

In the October 15, 2012, issue of Time Magazine, Paul Willis discusses how local meat can be trickier than produce. He is quoted “You can grow a local tomato anywhere, but when it comes to pigs, you need space and scale.”


The New York Times discusses the growing movement of gestation crate-free meat and interviews Niman Ranch

Paul Willis is questioned about the use of gestation crates- which Niman Ranch protocols forbid. He is quoted saying that gestation crates are inhumane “Those sows can’t even turn around and they have no bedding, nothing to root around in. I don’t think it’s acceptable.” Read the article here.

The New York Times picked the Niman Ranch BLT as U.S. Open Food of the Day

The final installment of The New York Times daily reviews of the food from the United States Open concession stands. The Farm 2 Fork booth offered on its menu a Niman Ranch B.L.T. “served on two massive slabs of whole-wheat bread, with two almost as massive slabs of tomato, some lettuce and an impressive pile of thickly sliced bacon.” Read the full review here.
