Buy a Burger Fund a Farmer at Marczyk Fine Foods

Sarah- Pete- Store Front

It’s great to see that so many people are gaining awareness about the increasing obstacles family farmers across America are facing but many don’t know what to do about it.   Fortunately for us, Niman Ranch recognized early on that young and beginning farmers lack the support and tools they need and often go looking for opportunities elsewhere abandoning their family’s tradition of farming.

To slow this trend, Niman Ranch set up the Next Generation Scholarship Fund.  This fund supports the children of farmers within the Niman Ranch community of family farmer by offering them scholarships to help them seek a higher education in areas that would improve their family’s farming operation and their rural hometown communities.

Marczyk Fine Foods in Denver, Colorado, is doing great things in their community and beyond.  They have always known that good food starts with great ingredients and that starts at the farm.  Not only have they shown their commitment to supporting the traditional family farmers at Niman Ranch by building their entire meat department around this philosophy but they put their money where their mouth is so to speak.  They invited me to attend their burger night last weekend which they turned into a  fundraiser for the Niman Ranch Next Generation Scholarship Fund at both locations!

There, I had the best burger I have ever tasted. Of course it was made with Niman Ranch beef served with freshly cut lettuce, tomato and onion, accompanied by homemade toppings like homemade aioli mayonnaise and real Dijon mustard, all served on a bun from Marczyk’s bakery! It was so delicious that my mouth is watering as I write about it.

What fun and for a good cause, with incredible support from the Marczyk’s team, not only did they donate the proceeds from the burger purchase but they also encouraged their patrons to make a separate donation at the cash register. If they donated $20 or more they received a free pint of the decedent Marczyk Fine Foods ice cream.  Many people in the local Denver community came out to support the cause!  It was overwhelming.

Marczyk Fine Foods even posted this quote on their website:

“When I was at Niman’s Hog Farmer Appreciation Dinner in Iowa last year, these scholarship winners were so appreciative,” notes Peter Marczyk. “Only 6% of American farmers are under 35 years old. We have to get financial support to the kids who want to stay on the land. This fund does that.”

Thank You to Marczyk Fine Foods for your dedication to the sustainable and humane family farmers who supply Niman Ranch and for your contribution to the Next Generation Scholarship Fund.  The Scholarship recipients will awarded at this year’s Niman Ranch Farmer Appreciation Dinner to be held in Des Moines, Iowa on August 17.
