Five years ago, the Niman Ranch team set out on a global search to ensure we continue to offer an unrivaled eating experience. We tasted a lot of pork to find the best hog breeds and genetics that would create exceptional, consistent flavor and thrive in an outdoor-based farming model. An exclusive line of genetics was discovered by our meat quality expert, Dr. Jim Magolski who has a PhD in meat science, on the Iberian Peninsula —home to Spain and Portugal—a region that has long-prized pork quality.

The Iberian Duroc lineage, exclusive to Niman Ranch, has origins in Spain and was selectively bred to be raised in the U.S. by our community of small-scale family farmers.  This line is defined by its robust marbling and exceptional flavor, delivering an unforgettable  eating experience.
